DIFFERENT KINDS OF POINTS OF DIFFERENCE
In my interviews, three different kinds of Points of Difference have emerged: a) Topic Spin, b) Personality Style, c) Speaker Model
FINDING YOUR POINT OF DIFFERENCE
While interviewing highly successful speakers about the Speaker Models (see below), I've observed that each of them has clearly known their point of difference. Yet, they have also admitted that it took them time to find their point of difference in their career.
POINT OF DIFFERENCE
One of our clients, Trudy Bourgeois, described this as "establishing a point of difference". Since that interview, I have frequently used that term --- point of difference --- to explain what speakers need to create for a successful business as a professional speaker.
ART OF PERSONAL BRANDING
Speaking is a very competitive business and we have an excess of speakers. The ones who will succeed will have a definitive personal brand.
